TL;DR
Public Benefit Specialist (Healthcare Revenue Cycle): Interviewing uninsured and under-insured patients to determine Medicaid or financial assistance eligibility, coordinate applications, and follow up through final determinations with an accent on patient communication, insurance processes, and accurate patient accounting. Focus on obtaining required documentation, updating insurance information, and coordinating with Medicaid caseworkers and revenue cycle teams.

Location: On-site at Mercy - St Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio; limited to individuals residing and authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $18.65–$20.50 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

  • Review uninsured and under-insured patients for Medicaid and financial assistance eligibility.
  • Initiate and coordinate applications, ensuring accurate and complete submissions.
  • Communicate with patients to obtain required supporting documents.
  • Follow applications through determination, update insurance information, and support timely billing or adjustment posting.
  • Document actions and communications in patient accounting systems.
  • Collaborate with county, state, and federal Medicaid caseworkers and revenue cycle departments.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of healthcare industry experience involving patient interactions about hospital financial matters.
  • High school diploma or GED; post-secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle processes, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
  • Knowledge of patient insurance processes, authorizations, benefits verification, health insurance requirements, and medical terminology or procedure codes.
  • CRCR certification required within nine months of hire.
  • Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Patient Access experience with managed care and insurance.
  • Call center experience.
  • Openness to innovation, including using AI to improve processes and patient and client experiences.
