Complex Claims Director, Severity (Excess Claims)

Location: NY-New York; additional position locations include Jersey City, Boston, and Chicago. Primarily in-office work with hybrid collaboration.

Salary: $112,000–$140,000 base salary annually, plus eligibility for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex third-party property and casualty claims, including multimillion-dollar auto, explosion, class action injury, and product liability claims.
• Determine the scope and extent of coverage under excess commercial general liability and auto policies.
• Develop investigation strategies addressing liability, causation, damages, risk transfer, and contribution opportunities.
• Direct litigation strategy, manage budgets and expenses, and coordinate with defense counsel, coverage counsel, vendors, and insureds.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, trials, and other proceedings while using alternative dispute resolution where appropriate.
• Present claim disposition recommendations to senior management and communicate with insureds, brokers, underwriters, attorneys, and claimants.

Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial or industry claims experience preferred.
• Advanced experience managing litigation claims, including alternative dispute resolution and mediation.
• Experience handling pre-suit, litigated, and post-trial cases at mediations and settlement conferences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
• Property and Casualty licenses are required and must be obtained within six months.
• Motivation to pursue an upwardly mobile career path.
