Sr. Complex Claims Specialist, PL & Specialty Severity

Location: Hybrid in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, or West Hartford, with in-office attendance two days per week; qualified remote candidates may also be considered.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 annually, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Handle the organization’s highest-severity primary Professional Lines claims from inception through resolution.
• Manage complex claims and litigation, including coverage analysis, correspondence, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution.
• Collaborate with external experts, legal counsel, underwriting, insureds, and broker partners.
• Identify emerging exposures, claims trends, and suspected fraudulent claims for referral to the special investigations unit.
• Maintain accurate claim files in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Act as a subject matter expert, mentor colleagues, and develop or deliver training for claims teams and underwriters.

Requirements

• 10+ years of Professional Liability and/or Specialty claims handling experience.
• B.A. or B.S. degree required; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred and may supplement claims experience.
• Expert knowledge of coverage in the relevant specialty and of litigation and negotiation processes.
• Proven ability to achieve positive outcomes on high-severity claims through investigation, negotiation, and litigation leadership.
• Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-changing environment.
• Adjuster licensing required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
