Complex Claims Director, Excess Claims

Location: New York, United States; primarily office-based

Base salary: $112,000–$138,500 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve new and existing multimillion-dollar third-party property and casualty claims.
• Determine available coverage under excess commercial general liability and auto policies.
• Develop investigation strategies addressing liability, causation, damages, risk transfer, and contribution opportunities.
• Direct litigation strategy, manage defense and coverage counsel, attend mediations and trials, and control litigation budgets.
• Negotiate complex claims, use alternative dispute resolution where appropriate, and document evaluation and resolution strategies.
• Present claim disposition recommendations and large-value cases to senior management while managing communication with insureds, brokers, underwriters, attorneys, and claimants.

Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial or industry claims experience preferred.
• Advanced experience managing litigated claims, including ADR and mediation.
• Experience handling cases before suit, during litigation, and after trial, including mediations and settlement conferences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong negotiation skills.
• Property and Casualty licenses are required and must be obtained within six months.
• Ability to work primarily in the office in New York.
