TL;DR
Principal NPI Mechanical Design Engineer (Turbomachinery): Designing and developing advanced turbomachinery systems and components for new product introduction with an accent on 3D modeling, engineering drawings, manufacturability, and system integration. Focus on solving complex mechanical challenges, evaluating safety and performance tradeoffs, applying FEA, mitigating technical risks, and mentoring engineers.

Location: San Diego, California; onsite five days a week

Salary: $120,600–$180,900 per year

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership for new product introduction and advanced turbomachinery development.
  • Translate customer, business, and product requirements into mechanical engineering solutions.
  • Develop and maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, bills of material, and product documentation.
  • Design and integrate complex turbomachinery systems and components.
  • Evaluate tradeoffs involving safety, performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, serviceability, and risk.
  • Collaborate with Field Service, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Business Development, and engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience designing and developing complex engineered products, including turbomachinery, rotating equipment, gas turbine systems, or related industrial equipment.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D modeling with Ansys SpaceClaim and Creo, engineering drawings, BOM development with Windchill and Linked Data, and configuration management.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, product development, and design for manufacturability.
  • Ability to independently solve complex technical problems, provide cross-functional technical leadership, and mentor engineers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience developing and reviewing mechanical installation drawings.
  • Knowledge of engineering analysis methods, including finite element analysis (FEA), and ability to apply results to design decisions.
