TL;DR
Principal Fire Protection Engineer (Energy Storage and Power Infrastructure): Leading fire and life safety engineering for utility-scale energy storage, power, and industrial EPC projects with an accent on code compliance, risk mitigation, and project delivery. Focus on developing fire protection design criteria, overseeing external engineering consultants, coordinating with AHJs and insurers, and supporting system testing and commissioning.

Location: Remote - FL; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship. Travel of up to 25% may be required.

Salary: $144,963–$173,956 per year.

What you will do

  • Act as the technical authority for fire and life safety systems across energy storage, power, and industrial EPC projects.
  • Establish engineering standards, design criteria, best practices, and project-specific fire protection basis-of-design documents.
  • Lead code and standards committee participation and serve as the technical interface with AHJs, fire marshals, insurers, owners, and independent engineers.
  • Develop scopes of work, RFPs, and evaluation criteria for external fire protection engineers-of-record and equipment vendors.
  • Manage consultant deliverables, schedules, budgets, and quality assurance for hazard mitigation analyses, emergency response plans, and fire alarm designs.
  • Coordinate with electrical and SCADA disciplines, optimize designs for cost and constructability, and support testing and commissioning.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience, including at least 2 years in energy infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with AHJs, fire marshals, and code officials through permitting, design review, inspections, and approvals.
  • Advanced knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL 855, and applicable industry standards.
  • Experience managing or reviewing work from external engineering consultants, owners’ engineers, or peer reviewers on complex projects.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Fire Protection Engineering.
