Lead Mechanical Engineer (Turbomachinery): Designing and analyzing high-speed rotating equipment and machinery support systems with an accent on turbomachinery design, FEA, rotordynamics, bearings, seals, and manufacturability. Focus on developing mechanical design tools and standards, solving complex equipment and field issues, reducing engineering and material costs, and mentoring engineering staff.
Location: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States; hybrid schedule with 4 days in-office. Minimal travel, under 10%, is required for onsite customer support.

What you will do
- Perform turbomachinery design analyses, including FEA for stress, deflection, and modal behavior, hand calculations, and rotordynamics.
- Execute mechanical design work for awarded projects, product development, innovation initiatives, and aftermarket engineering activities.
- Develop mechanical analysis tools, standardized design processes, procedures, guidelines, training packages, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with product, proposals, manufacturing, business improvement, customers, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Support root cause analyses, equipment commissioning, startup, safety and operability reviews, drawing approvals, component and material selection, and bid estimates.
- Mentor and develop less experienced engineers while driving safety, cost reduction, competitiveness, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 20+ years of turbomachinery or rotating machinery design experience.
- Deep knowledge of turbomachinery design principles, FEA, rotordynamics, bearing and seal technologies, and design for manufacturability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, presentation, organizational, and customer-focused skills.
- Ability to collaborate, learn quickly, mentor engineers, motivate teams, and continuously improve engineering practices.
- Ability to work in a hybrid schedule with 4 days in the Bethlehem office.
Nice to have
- Advanced FEA and rotordynamic analysis experience.
- Experience with fluid film, gas, magnetic, hydrostatic, or rolling-element bearings and gas or labyrinth seals.
- Turbine testing, data acquisition, equipment startup, plant integration, 2D CAD, 3D modeling, and simulation experience.
- Programming experience with VB, C#, C++, Python, Matlab, Fortran, or similar languages.
- Advanced degree focused on turbomachinery design, rotordynamics, bearings, seals, manufacturability, or manufacturing processes.
