TL;DR
Water/Wastewater Resident Engineer: Supporting construction management for complex NYCDEP water and wastewater infrastructure projects with an accent on contract administration, field inspection leadership, quality control, and stakeholder coordination. Focus on managing change orders, reviewing CPM schedules, resolving field and contract issues, and ensuring compliance with agency requirements through project closeout.

Location: Empire State Building, New York, New York; full-time, on-site role supporting NYCDEP infrastructure projects in the NYC Metro Area.

Compensation: $187,747.98–$214,569.12 per year

What you will do

  • Support the Construction Manager with day-to-day oversight of major NYCDEP construction projects.
  • Lead contract administration and coordinate communication between hirify.global, clients, contractors, design teams, and partner agencies.
  • Manage inspection staff and field inspections covering excavations, foundations, structures, site work, utilities, and drainage.
  • Monitor contractor performance, construction quality, materials, methods, safety procedures, schedules, permits, and submittals.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, change orders, payment applications, cost records, CPM schedules, and monthly reports.
  • Lead construction meetings, risk resolution, project closeout, field testing, start-up, operations and maintenance training, and on-site sub-consultant coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of construction or construction management experience, preferably with water-related infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer license or immediate ability to obtain one.
  • Strong understanding of construction documentation, CPM scheduling, and cost control processes.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, contractors, agencies, and project stakeholders while leading field teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Nice to have

  • New York PE license and prior experience as a Resident Engineer on NYC water infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with NYCDEP, NYCDDC, or similar agencies and familiarity with their standards and specifications.
  • Experience in foundations, underground construction, and structural, mechanical, and electrical work for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Experience coordinating with contractor project managers, engineers, and superintendents.
  • Interest in business development and proposal support.
