Director, R&D Business Operations (Pharmaceutical R&D)

Location: Hybrid role based in Raritan, New Jersey, or Spring House, Pennsylvania, United States; up to 10% domestic and international travel required.

Salary: $164,000–$282,900 per year, plus eligibility for retirement, savings, and long-term incentive programs.

What you will do

• Lead process optimization and business transformation initiatives across Innovative Medicine R&D.
• Develop operational strategies to simplify processes, improve efficiency, optimize resources, and reduce development costs.
• Manage project portfolios, budgets, resources, timelines, risks, and performance indicators.
• Build partnerships with Legal, Procurement, GSINC, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead contract simplification initiatives and support integration with Global Simplification & Innovation in Contracting.
• Lead and develop teams in a matrix environment while driving change management and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; a Master’s or PhD in Engineering is preferred.
• At least 10 years of project management or leadership experience in a pharmaceutical environment, preferably R&D.
• Experience in contracting and/or procurement required.
• Experience leading people in a matrix organization, including direct management or cross-functional team leadership.
• Strong influencing, relationship-building, negotiation, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
