TL;DR
Sr Staff System Engineer (GaN Motor Control): Defining next-generation GaN motor-control ICs, silicon architectures, and technology roadmaps with an accent on low-voltage BLDC and PMSM systems, power-stage design, and system-level optimization. Focus on translating application requirements into IC specifications, designing and validating high-power-density prototypes, performing worst-case simulations, and supporting customer architecture engagements.

Location: Hybrid role based in San Jose, California; Phoenix, Arizona; or Chandler, Arizona. Local candidates are preferred and relocation is not available. Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States.

Salary: $160,000–$235,000 annual pay, plus eligibility for bonus opportunities.

Company

hirify.global is an embedded semiconductor solution provider developing technology for automotive, industrial, infrastructure, and IoT applications.

What you will do

  • Define next-generation low-voltage GaN motor-control IC products, silicon architectures, electrical specifications, and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Translate system and customer requirements into specifications covering gate drive performance, protection features, sensing, packaging, thermal constraints, and integrated functionality.
  • Collaborate with IC Design, R&D, Marketing, test, validation, functional safety, and quality teams to align silicon implementation with application requirements.
  • Design, capture schematics, lay out, and validate high-power-density prototypes and evaluation boards for BLDC and PMSM motor-control systems.
  • Perform worst-case circuit simulations, technical trade-off analysis, competitive benchmarking, and motor-system characterization.
  • Support tier-one customer engagements by influencing system architectures, co-designing topologies, and troubleshooting prototype issues.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of experience in power electronics, semiconductor systems, or motor-drive design, including defining and launching motor-control ICs or discrete power solutions.
  • Experience with power drivers, current sensing, protection circuits, level shifting, bootstrap and charge-pump supplies, references, amplifiers, comparators, SPI, I2C, registers, and e-fuses.
  • Experience designing motor-driver schematics and protection systems using MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, or GaN devices.
  • Advanced PCB-layout knowledge for high-power switching, including parasitic-inductance reduction, EMI/EMC mitigation, and thermal management.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, Saber, PLECS, PSIM, or comparable motor-drive simulation and co-simulation tools.
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field required; strong cross-functional communication and presentation skills are required.

Nice to have

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with GaN and silicon power-semiconductor physics, including gate charge, reverse recovery, and parasitic inductance analysis.

Culture & Benefits

  • Regular employment with medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability benefits.
  • Health savings and flexible spending accounts, pre-tax commuter benefits, and pet insurance.
  • Paid sick time, holidays, and accrued vacation.
  • Collaborative, transparent, agile, global, innovative, and entrepreneurial work culture.
  • Work with a global engineering organization operating across more than 30 countries.
