TL;DR
Lead Motor Control Engineer (Power Electronics): Developing, testing, and sustaining embedded motor control firmware and variable speed drive products with an accent on power electronics, sensorless motor control, PFC algorithms, and product qualification. Location: Sidney, Ohio, USA; hybrid schedule with at least three days per week in the office

What you will do

  • Develop, support, and test embedded motor control firmware for variable speed drive products.
  • Contribute to product specifications, architecture, design documentation, DFMEA, safety certification, schedules, and product releases alongside hardware engineering.
  • Design and test electrical equipment and systems for firmware testing, motor characterization, user interface software, performance testing, and product qualification.
  • Coordinate design reviews, performance, qualification, and reliability testing for embedded power electronics products.
  • Execute engineering changes, root cause analysis of field returns, and firmware or hardware updates throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support competitive analysis, supplier selection, next-generation product development, and customer support from a motor control perspective.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of engineering experience focused on embedded motor control firmware design and development, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with sensorless motor control methods, PFC algorithms, and communication protocols.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, prioritization, and coordination skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work with a global team and attend late-evening meetings at least once per week.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree and 10–12 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of power electronics hardware, microcontrollers, and digital and analog circuits across multiple platforms.
  • Experience with customers and safety agencies such as UL and VDE, plus EMI/EMC mitigation.
  • Experience with variable speed drives, automatic motor characterization, inverter and converter topologies, Matlab/Simulink, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, and schematic or simulation tools.
