Medical Laboratory Scientist, Sr (Medical Laboratory Science)

Location: Stone Oak clinic, San Antonio, Texas; scheduled hours are 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The description also references support for a Gateway location in El Paso, Texas. The role is performed in an office laboratory environment and may require travel by air or automobile for approximately 70% of the workweek.

What you will do

• Perform moderate- and high-complexity testing across chemistry, hematology, and immunology.
• Collect and process patient specimens, assist with phlebotomy and special procedures, and prepare samples for reference laboratories.
• Operate laboratory instruments and complete scheduled maintenance, calibration, reagent preparation, and troubleshooting.
• Conduct quality control, proficiency testing, result verification, corrective actions, and complete laboratory documentation.
• Perform blood smear differentials, urine sediment microscopy, transfusion specimen processing, and timely charting of patient results.
• Train laboratory employees, serve as a science resource, and oversee daily activities when the supervisor is absent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related healthcare field, or equivalent qualifying experience.
• Alternatively, an associate degree plus four years of related experience, or eight years of related experience.
• Five years of experience are required for the senior level.
• Current state license where required; licensure and certification requirements depend on the state.
• Ability to perform detailed laboratory work, operate complex equipment, stand or sit for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to follow CLIA, OSHA, universal precautions, quality assurance, and applicable regulatory standards.

Nice to have

• AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification.
• Experience acting as the primary operator for laboratory instruments or participating in the development of new instruments and procedures.
