Health and Safety Intern

Location: Tokai, Western Cape, South Africa; must be willing to relocate to Tokai

What you will do

• Support compliance with local legislation and global SGS health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Establish, implement, maintain, and distribute Health, Safety & Environment Management System documentation and procedures.
• Develop hazard identification processes, facilitate risk assessments, and verify the effectiveness of controls.
• Lead and participate in incident investigations, audits, inspections, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Coordinate inductions, onboarding, training, medical surveillance, and HSE awareness initiatives for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Prepare KPI reports, management review presentations, trend analyses, and improvement recommendations.

Requirements

• South African citizenship and a valid South African ID document.
• Age 18–30, currently unemployed, and no criminal record.
• Experience with risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and relevant HSE standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook, plus document and report writing experience.
• Strong analytical, research, organizational, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
