Senior Principal Engineer - Turbine Blade Mechanical Design

Location: San Diego, California; onsite five days a week. Relocation is available. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $128,470–$192,710 per year

Develops turbine engine products and hardware for demanding industrial applications.

What you will do

• Develop turbine blade design iterations for new engine products in collaboration with turbine aerodynamics, heat transfer, and product definition teams.
• Establish and correct design direction through preliminary structural and modal analysis.
• Collect producibility and cost feedback from investment casting suppliers from concept through validation.
• Work with materials and processes engineering to develop materials, coatings, and technologies for harsh operating conditions.
• Chair peer and formal design reviews and support tooling and hardware definition release.
• Provide supplier manufacturing support, disposition hardware, and validate blade condition and design intent during development and early production testing.

Requirements

• 10+ years of directly applicable mechanical design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Direct experience designing and analyzing internally cooled airfoil components for gas turbine engines.
• Experience with investment-cast components, single-crystal nickel-based superalloys, thermal barrier coatings, and harsh-environment treatments.
• Knowledge of blade life prediction methods, component durability limitations, and failure mechanisms.
• Expert-level GD&T and CAD modeling experience.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.
• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Expert CAD modeling with Creo or NX, including parametric design and advanced surfacing.
• General knowledge of heat transfer and aerodynamics fundamentals.
