Staff Structures Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: 100% onsite at the El Segundo, California headquarters

Salary: $168.5K–$207.9K annually, plus equity

hirify.global is an El Segundo-based startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt fail-safe Kaleidos reactor.

What you will do

• Own the design and development of critical structures, including transportable shielding, container systems, and high-temperature graphite and metallic systems.
• Conduct trade studies, select materials, and develop designs that meet program requirements and volumetric constraints.
• Perform static strength, durability, fatigue, vibration, and shock analyses using hand calculations and finite element tools.
• Develop manufacturing and assembly instructions, test plans, and subassembly schedules.
• Create and manage bills of materials and develop suppliers for components.
• Own subsystem FMEA risk analysis and communicate requirements and technical feedback across engineering functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience designing structures.
• 5+ years of stress-analysis experience using hand calculations and finite element tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP, or similar.
• Experience with thermal expansion, structural integrity, and free-body diagrams.
• Willingness to work 100% onsite at the El Segundo headquarters and work extended hours or weekends when necessary.
• Strong organizational, written, oral communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience designing multi-component assemblies in NX or similar CAD tools.
• Experience with manufactured, deployed, and iteratively improved hardware.
• Solid understanding and application of GD&T.
• Experience using text-based software development tools.
