TL;DR
Senior Propulsion Engineer I (Liquid Rocket Engines): Designing, analyzing, testing, and integrating liquid rocket engine hardware and propulsion subsystems with an accent on flight hardware development, subsystem architecture, and CFD/FEA analysis. Focus on developing engine components, executing test programs, analyzing experimental data, and taking hardware from concept through qualification and flight readiness.

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. government authorizations.

Salary: $140,000–$168,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design and develop liquid rocket engine components, including loading frames, gimbals, bellows units, and pipelines.
  • Define requirements, evaluate architecture trades, and integrate assigned propulsion subsystems at the system level.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and contributions to preliminary and critical design reviews.
  • Perform CFD and FEA analyses covering pressure drops, hydraulic characteristics, and mechanical integrity.
  • Develop and execute test programs, analyze experimental data, and optimize hardware designs.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, aerospace, and controls engineering teams to deliver flight-ready hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, fabrication, assembly, or testing.
  • Hands-on proficiency with CAD tools, including Siemens NX and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with structural or mechanical design for flight hardware and early-stage vehicle architecture trades.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and independent working skills.
  • Must meet U.S. space technology export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing liquid rocket engine components and setting up test benches for performance diagnostics.
  • Hands-on engineering experience across computer-based and physical hardware work.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, aerospace safety and reliability practices, or rapid-development startup experience.
  • Experience with ANSYS and MATLAB.
