Senior Spacecraft Propulsion Systems Engineer I (Aerospace): Developing and owning spacecraft propulsion and fluidic systems from requirements and modelling through qualification, production, and acceptance testing with an accent on system-level design, performance analysis, and risk-based engineering. Focus on validating physics-based models with test data, planning and executing propulsion hardware tests, and leading technical delivery across engineers, technicians, and stakeholders.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based out of the Long Beach office.

Base salary: $115,000–$173,000 USD annually. Total compensation, including equity: $135,000–$208,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Own the development of new and existing spacecraft propulsion and fluidic products or systems as a technical lead.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed performance calculations, systems modelling, static and transient analysis, validation, and system design.
  • Gather, define, and manage system requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Plan, set up, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion system tests.
  • Make risk-based technical decisions and communicate progress with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build schedules, coordinate engineers and technicians, mentor team members, and maintain engineering standards and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in propulsion system development or another high-performance engineering field.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements and U.S. space technology export regulations.
  • Expertise in propulsion system modelling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using Amesim, EcosimPro, Simulink, or Simscape.
  • Experience with end-to-end development, including requirements gathering, detailed design, qualification, production, and acceptance testing.
  • Experience with systems engineering V, risk-based decision-making, and propulsion systems using electrical and chemical storable propellants.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Jama, Python data manipulation, NX or equivalent CAD, GD&T, engineering drawings, PLM software, and National Instruments data acquisition systems.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting flight hardware.
  • Master’s degree or PhD.
  • Hands-on engineering experience, strong communication skills, and comfort working with ambiguity.
