Focus on validating performance models with test data, making risk-based engineering decisions, and leading schedules, technical teams, and hardware testing.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based out of the Long Beach office.

Base salary: $132,000–$220,000 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $165,000–$277,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Own the development of new and existing spacecraft propulsion and fluidic products or systems as a technical lead.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed performance calculations, system modeling, transient and static analysis, and system design.
  • Gather, define, and manage system requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Plan, instrument, execute, and analyze propulsion system tests, including flight hardware testing and troubleshooting.
  • Lead systems engineering activities, risk-based technical decisions, project schedules, and work assignments.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians and contribute to engineering processes, documentation, training, and reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in propulsion system development or another high-performance engineering field.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
  • Expertise in propulsion system modeling, static and transient analysis, and model validation using Amesim, EcosimPro, Simulink, or Simscape.
  • Experience with requirements, detailed design, qualification, production, acceptance testing, the Systems Engineering V-model, and risk-based decision-making.
  • Experience with propulsion systems using electrical and chemical storable propellants.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Jama, Python for data manipulation and post-processing, NX or equivalent CAD software, GD&T, engineering drawings, PLM software, and National Instruments data acquisition systems.
  • Hands-on engineering experience and experience testing or troubleshooting flight hardware.
  • Master’s degree or PhD.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, planning, decision-making, and mentoring skills.
