Assistant Resident Engineer

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; on-site work as needed

Salary: $147,000–$180,000 per year. Compensation range: $146,678.11–$167,632.13 per year.

What you will do

• Oversee highway, bridge, facilities, building, and rail/transit construction projects from conception through closeout.
• Review contractor submissions and verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify nonconforming work and coordinate timely corrective action.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, daily reports, change orders, and accurate, timely DWR completion.
• Monitor contractor performance, schedules, milestones, project progress, and critical paths.
• Supervise and mentor inspectors and field technicians while serving as the primary contact for CTDOT, contractors, engineers, and agency representatives.

Requirements

• Professional Engineering License with 8 years of experience, or Certified Construction Manager certification with 10 years of experience.
• Strong understanding of CTDOT CEI processes, contract administration, and construction documentation.
• Knowledge of construction materials and methods, including complex quantity and engineering computations.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work on-site as needed.

Nice to have

• Transportation infrastructure project experience.
• Working knowledge of COMPASS and AASHTOWare Project.
• NETTCP, ACI, NACE, AMP, BCI, or ATSSA certifications related to concrete, paving, coatings, or traffic control.
• Professional Engineer license.
