Resident Engineer (Heavy Civil Infrastructure)

Location: Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, or the San Francisco Bay Area, California; or Seattle, Washington, United States. Work takes place in active construction environments, with travel to project sites as required.

Salary: $100,000–$180,000 per year ($48–$87 per hour).

What you will do

• Administer construction contracts in the field and enforce plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Direct inspection staff, coordinate field coverage, and maintain accurate construction documentation.
• Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, change requests, potential change orders, claims, pay quantities, and progress payments.
• Coordinate contractors, designers, utility owners, third parties, and agency stakeholders to resolve field conflicts.
• Oversee quality assurance, materials testing, nonconformance resolution, site safety, and incident corrective actions.
• Lead progress meetings and coordinate punch lists, testing and commissioning, substantial completion, and closeout documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction engineering, engineering technology, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in construction management, resident engineering, construction engineering and inspection, or owner’s representative work on transit, transportation, or heavy-civil infrastructure projects.
• Experience administering field construction contracts, including submittals, RFIs, change management, progress payments, and formal contractor correspondence.
• Experience training and directing construction management and inspection staff and working under an owner’s construction manual or documented agency procedures.
• Knowledge of construction means and methods, contract administration, quality assurance, field documentation, engineering drawings, specifications, and construction schedules.
• Proficiency with project management and construction documentation platforms such as Kahua, Unifier, e-Builder, Procore, or Bluebeam, as well as Microsoft Office 365.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree, Professional Engineer license, or Certified Construction Manager certification.
• Experience with light rail or commuter rail construction, transportation megaprograms, federally funded transit construction, or alternative delivery methods.
• Experience in an owner’s representative, program management, or PMO capacity.
• Experience analyzing contractor schedules in Primavera P6 and reporting KPIs with Power BI or Oracle Cloud Analytics.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
