Focus on preparing CAD models for FEA and manufacturing, solving complex mechanical integrity challenges, and applying test data to optimize designs and ensure mission success.

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $140,000–$168,000 per year

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of primary and secondary launch vehicle structures, stage interfaces, and payload accommodations.
  • Perform static, transient structural, and thermal analyses of launch vehicle components and systems.
  • Prepare CAD models for finite element analysis and manufacturing.
  • Develop test programs, analyze experimental data, and apply findings to optimize designs.
  • Generate technical reports, specifications, and contributions to preliminary and critical design reviews.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, aerospace, and controls engineering teams; support mission operations, anomaly investigations, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of industry experience in aerospace design and analysis.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools including SolidWorks and NX.
  • Expertise with Ansys Mechanical, Explicit Dynamics (LS-Dyna), buckling, harmonic response, and random vibration analysis.
  • Strong systems engineering, requirements flowdown, integration, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware development, testing, and qualification, plus strong written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems, liquid rocket systems, launch vehicle components, and aerospace manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with aerospace safety and reliability practices.
  • Startup or rapid development experience.
  • MATLAB experience for programming, data analysis, and optimization.
