Director of Procurement & Sourcing (Biotechnology)

What you will do

• Lead strategic sourcing, structuring, negotiation, and contracting across clinical research, manufacturing, laboratory, technology, data, consulting, and professional services categories.
• Develop contract strategies with Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders to manage risk, support regulatory compliance, and align with organizational goals.
• Lead supplier negotiations covering commercial terms, pricing, payment frameworks, commitments, and contractual obligations.
• Oversee the contract lifecycle, including renewals, amendments, scope changes, vendor performance reviews, and issue resolution.
• Analyze supplier spend and relationships to identify cost savings, process improvements, operational efficiencies, and risk-reduction opportunities.
• Provide strategic leadership and mentorship while shaping supplier governance models, procurement policies, and long-term sourcing strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• 10–12 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier management, and contract negotiations.
• Experience negotiating complex agreements with CROs, CMOs, laboratories, and outsourced service providers supporting drug development and clinical operations.
• Knowledge of biotech procurement practices, vendor contracting frameworks, industry benchmarks, pricing methodologies, and risk allocation strategies.
• Experience supporting sourcing and contracting for Phase I, II, and III clinical development programs.
• Executive-level stakeholder partnership, strong negotiation and analytical skills, and experience building scalable procurement processes.

Nice to have

• MBA or another advanced degree.
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences sectors.
• Established network and familiarity with the biotechnology supplier ecosystem in the Bay Area.
• Experience building, optimizing, or transforming procurement and contracting functions in a high-growth or emerging organization.
