Sr. Software Engineering Manager, Android Architecture

Location: Mettawa, Illinois, United States; hybrid with an expectation to work onsite three days per week. Some global travel is required.

Salary: $118,400–$174,000 annually, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Own and evolve Android platform services and SDK architecture, including launcher, settings, device management, data services, and OTA capabilities.
• Design scalable, modular, and testable framework layers above AOSP for Navico’s hardware ecosystem.
• Ensure compatibility with future Android releases and embedded and automotive Android trends.
• Contribute hands-on to Kotlin, Java, C/C++, Python, and embedded Android codebases.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical documentation, system-level decisions, CI/CD, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Manage a small engineering team and collaborate with product, UX, hardware, validation, and global engineering teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software development and software architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related engineering field.
• Experience with Android, Android Automotive, services, SDK development, and embedded software.
• Knowledge of CANBus, networking, cloud, mobile, hardware, and ML.
• Proven people leadership, strong communication, conflict negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement with three onsite days per week in Mettawa, Illinois, and travel globally when required.

Nice to have

• Experience with IoT-connected and secure products and Wi-Fi, BLE, CAN, or NMEA protocols.
• Experience with Android Studio, GCP, TestRail, Gherkin, Cucumber, Atlassian products, or similar tools.
• Interest in boating or comfort with product testing on boats.
• Formal management training.
