Senior Software Engineer, Firmware

Location: Hybrid work at the Woodbury, MN office; on-site Monday through Thursday and remote optional on Fridays.

Salary: $140,000–$155,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain C++ firmware for the Anytime Fitness access control system.
• Integrate embedded hardware with backend systems and build internal tools for device fleet management.
• Write and maintain automated tests, technical documentation, and hardware acceptance and manual test plans.
• Work with hardware vendors on new revisions and help debug complex hardware issues across the global device fleet.
• Collaborate with firmware, backend, QA, hardware, SaaS, supply chain, warehouse, and provisioning teams.
• Serve as a technical resource for the hardware technology stack and connected studio systems.

Requirements

• Proficiency in writing firmware for microcontrollers using C or C++.
• Proficiency with multithreaded applications, including mutexes, threads, or pthreads.
• Experience writing and integrating automated tests such as GTest or GMock.
• Ability to self-direct, organize work, meet commitments, and maintain technical quality in a distributed environment.
• Deep knowledge in at least one of hardware, backend, or mobile engineering; experience with connected systems is valuable.
• Ability to work in the required hybrid schedule at the Woodbury, MN office.

Nice to have

• Extensive hardware experience, including I2C, RS485, SPI, BLE, digital I/O, microcontrollers, wiring diagrams, CMake, and contract manufacturing.
• Backend experience with real-time connected systems, cloud-native applications, microservices, AuthZ/AuthN, OAuth2, certificates, Infrastructure as Code, or CI/CD.
• Mobile development experience and BLE integrations in Peripheral or Central modes.
• Experience with packet-capture tools, low-level networking, digital wallets, or hardware projects.
• More than five years of hardware product or real-time connected backend development experience.
