Lead Software Engineer (Autonomy)

Location: Moorpark, California, United States; office-based work required. Occasional travel within the Continental U.S. may be required.

Salary: $122,500–$187,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop modern C++ software implementing autonomy algorithms for real-time systems interacting with aircraft payloads.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and cross-platform software builds for Android and Linux on x86 and ARM.
• Develop and support Android ground control station software.
• Own software architecture and design decisions while balancing performance, reliability, maintainability, risk, and schedule.
• Troubleshoot aircraft and payload issues and integrate third-party payloads onto the platform.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, the Chief Engineer, and Product Line Manager while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or physics, or equivalent experience; alternative requirements apply for relevant master’s or PhD education.
• Extensive hands-on experience with modern C++, maintainable software architecture, and modular system design.
• Experience with DDS or similar protocols, distributed data across constrained networks, and networking principles.
• Experience developing software for mechatronic or hardware-integrated systems, including deterministic and real-time systems.
• U.S. citizenship is required, and the candidate must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
• The role requires eligibility under ITAR/EAR requirements and access to an office environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with CMake or similar build systems, Android, Linux, and cross-platform builds.
• Experience with UAS, drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles, or embedded systems.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, GitLab, Docker, Kotlin, or Java.
• Willingness to travel locally occasionally.
