Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Connected Vehicles)

Location: Greenville, Wisconsin, United States; fully onsite. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available. The role requires hands-on testing inside vehicles and may involve occasional travel to customer sites.

Salary: $104,100–$173,900 per year.

What you will do

• Design and develop embedded software for telematics, edge computing, remote diagnostics, over-the-air updates, vehicle network integration, and video recording or streaming.
• Provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on in software development and testing.
• Establish software architecture standards, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
• Improve Agile execution, backlog readiness, technical risk management, and release predictability.
• Validate software inside large vocational vehicles and in manufacturing or field environments.
• Collaborate with embedded, cloud, front-end, and product engineering stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of embedded software development using C and C++.
• Experience with Embedded Linux, TCP/IP, UDP, software architecture, design patterns, and embedded development practices.
• Experience leading technical projects while remaining hands-on and collaborating across engineering disciplines.
• Experience with connected mobile assets or telematics platforms, including cloud-connected architectures, OTA updates, cellular devices, and remote fleet management.
• Ability and willingness to test software inside vehicle cabs and in manufacturing or field environments.

Nice to have

• Rust, automotive or heavy-duty vehicle networks, CAN, and J1939.
• Cross-compilation, platform abstraction, board bring-up, BSP integration, hardware/software debugging, and embedded platform migration.
• FFmpeg, GStreamer, RTP, RTSP, WebRTC, video recording, streaming, or media processing experience.
• Initiative, influence without authority, and complex technical problem-solving skills.
