Claims Representative (Catastrophe Claims)

Location: Lansing, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with initial in-person training and work-from-home flexibility afterward

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry-level insurance claims under close supervision.
• Handle claims throughout the full lifecycle, from investigation and evaluation through resolution.
• Study policies, endorsements, forms, and claim procedures for the assigned line of insurance.
• Communicate with claimants, legal counsel, third parties, agents, and insureds.
• Develop negotiation, settlement, estimating, and loss-adjustment skills using designated computer programs.
• Complete the company’s claims training program and obtain or maintain required adjuster licenses.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent direct experience handling property and casualty claims.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and correspondence.
• Ability to organize data, multitask, make independent decisions, and resolve complex issues.
• Ability to work with confidential information, maintain data security, and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
• Ability to accurately handle mathematical problems, including geometry, financial calculations, unit costs, and finance documents.
• Valid driver’s license, ability to drive, and a driving record meeting company underwriting guidelines; authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship is required.
