Location: Hybrid field role in Detroit, Michigan or Chicago, Illinois. Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:30 PM EST; some weekend work, travel outside the assigned territory, and overnight stays may be required.
Salary: $70,000-$89,000 annually, plus potential annual bonus and catastrophe-unit compensation.

What you will do
- Review and investigate complex catastrophe claims, including coverage, exclusions, state law, subrogation, and recovery potential.
- Conduct on-site inspections, assess property damage, and prepare estimates using claims software.
- Evaluate losses, identify policyholder benefits, approve appropriate payments, and negotiate settlements.
- Contact insureds and affected parties, explain claim expectations, and provide customer-focused support.
- Create sub-claims, maintain accurate claim documentation, and complete claim closure activities in the claims management system.
- Refer claims to underwriting, recovery, or special investigation units and assist with file reviews and training when needed.
Requirements
- Complete the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience.
- Three years of experience or equivalent training in claim settlement negotiation, evidence evaluation, estimating, subrogation, coverage analysis, statements, and claim resolution planning.
- Be eligible to obtain a required state adjuster license within 90 days of hire and maintain it as required.
- Hold a valid state driver's license and safely operate a motor vehicle for field inspections.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Michigan insurance law, fair trade practices, subrogation, intercompany arbitration, litigation, and building repair techniques.
- Be able to travel, work evenings or weekends, relocate as needed, walk on roofs, climb ladders, and lift up to 25 pounds.
Nice to have
- Associate degree in business administration, insurance, claims, management, or a related field.
- CPCU coursework or designation and Xactware training.
- Homeowners claims experience, including personal property, additional living expenses, water loss, fire, or smoke claims.
