Senior Construction Inspector

Location: Columbia, Charleston, Aiken, or Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with daily travel to project sites. Night and weekend work may be required; limited overnight travel may occasionally be necessary.

Salary: $72,399–$82,272 per year

What you will do

• Perform construction inspection and assist with administration of highway, bridge, rail, and tunnel projects.
• Monitor contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and construction safety requirements.
• Establish engineering controls and inspect contractor work in the field.
• Prepare daily inspection reports, measure completed work, and maintain project documentation.
• Perform on-site material testing and sampling and interpret construction plans and technical specifications.
• Communicate with project staff and clients and train or mentor junior staff.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of construction inspection experience.
• Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, traverse rough terrain, walk or stand for extended periods, perform manual tasks, and work outdoors in all weather.
• Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of AASHTOWare and ProjectWise.
• Required certifications include SCDOT Earthwork, Drainage and Base Course Technician; SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician; ACI Field Level I; SCDOT Level I and II Concrete; Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector; SCDOT Foundations; SCDOT Pavement Preservation, Seal Coat, Micro/Slurry, and Concrete Pavement; and Temporary Traffic Control Design and Supervision. Missing certifications may be acquired at no cost within six months of employment, as scheduling permits.
