Roadway Design Engineering Specialist

Location: Pennsylvania, based in Douglassville, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, or Philadelphia

Compensation range: $83,978.91–$95,975.90 per year

What you will do

• Develop and refine 3D models, alignments, profiles, corridors, and cross-sections for transportation projects.
• Prepare roadway, highway, and transit drawings, plans, technical specifications, reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, planners, and project managers to integrate multidisciplinary design elements.
• Conduct design reviews, constructability assessments, and quality control checks against project objectives and regulatory standards.
• Mentor and train junior engineers in highway geometry and modeling software.
• Track OpenRoads advancements and apply relevant design practices to improve project outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• Successful completion of the FE exam.
• At least 2 years of transportation engineering experience focused on roadway design, alignment optimization, and geometric design.
• Strong proficiency in MicroStation InRoads and experience with signing, pavement marking, and traffic control plan development.
• Familiarity with PennDOT, AASHTO, and FHWA design standards and guidelines.
• Strong Microsoft Office, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree supplemented by a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, traffic signal and ITS design, or stormwater management and erosion and sedimentation control design and permitting.
