TL;DR
Electrical Engineer (Power Electronics): Designing, developing, and testing AC/DC power supplies and high-volume consumer electronics with an accent on switching converter topologies, transformer design, safety, and EMI/EMC compliance. Focus on analyzing power performance, validating prototypes under abnormal conditions, troubleshooting complex circuit issues, and supporting manufacturing launches.

Location: On-site in Melville, New York, United States; up to 10% domestic and international travel required.

Salary: $95,000–$110,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot AC/DC power supply circuits for high-volume consumer electronics.
  • Develop isolated and non-isolated switching converters, including flyback, buck, and boost topologies, as well as transformers and inductors.
  • Analyze efficiency, thermal performance, regulation, transient response, ripple, noise, startup behavior, and fault protection.
  • Perform design verification, abnormal-condition, reliability, thermal, surge, ESD, and EMI/EMC testing.
  • Design analog, digital, sensing, amplifier, protection, and microprocessor-based circuits, including firmware-related considerations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, packaging, suppliers, and regulatory agencies; support design reviews, product launches, field troubleshooting, and engineering changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science & Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience with power supply design and development.
  • Knowledge of AC mains safety, isolation, creepage, clearance, dielectric withstand, leakage current, fusing, surge protection, and related requirements.
  • Ability to review power supply PCB layouts for high di/dt loops, grounding, EMI control, thermal performance, isolation spacing, and manufacturability.
  • Experience with bench-level and system-level integration, debugging, troubleshooting, tolerance analysis, DFMEA/PFMEA, and analog simulation tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

  • Experience with consumer electronics, IoT technologies, sensors, signal conditioning, discrete semiconductors, and magnetics.
  • Experience with USB-A and USB-C power delivery standards.
  • Experience with ECAD tools, especially Altium Designer, for schematic and PCB layout creation.
  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, FCC, and other safety and regulatory standards for AC-powered products.
