Workshop Manager (Materials Testing)

Location: Consett, United Kingdom; full-time onsite workshop role

Salary: £35,000–£38,000 per year plus discretionary performance-related bonus

What you will do

• Manage the daily operation of the Consett materials testing workshop safely, efficiently, and in line with required standards.
• Lead, mentor, support, and develop workshop personnel while ensuring effective resource utilisation.
• Take responsibility for health and safety compliance across the Consett site.
• Perform hands-on machining, milling, turning, grinding, linishing, and test-sample processing, including collecting samples from other sites.
• Coordinate work bookings in the MRF system, housekeeping, maintenance tasks, and other operational requirements.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a workshop supervisor, team leader, or foreman.
• Strong hands-on machining and engineering knowledge, including workshop equipment and processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and written work instructions.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop others.
• UK driving licence required.

• Experience in a materials testing environment.
• Understanding of workshop planning and operational processes.
• Computer literacy and experience with workshop management systems.
• Creative and proactive approach to continuous improvement.
