Senior Systems Safety Engineer (Systems Safety): Ensuring the safety, compliance, and integrity of complex systems within highly regulated engineering environments with an accent on safety case development and hazard analysis. Focus on conducting detailed safety analyses (FTA, FMECA, ETA) and ensuring compliance with industry standards across Defence, Aerospace, and Rail sectors.

Location: Hybrid (3 days per week) in Bristol or Crawley, UK

Salary: GBP 45,000 - 65,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead and deliver systems safety engineering activities across the full project lifecycle in safety-critical environments.
• Develop and maintain Safety Cases, ensuring robust safety arguments and compliance with ALARP principles.
• Perform safety analyses including FTA, ETA, FMECA, FFA, and Interface Hazard Analysis (IHA).
• Identify, capture, and manage safety requirements to ensure they are embedded throughout system development.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Manage technical scope, priorities, and stakeholder engagement for safety engineering work packages.

Requirements

• Must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.
• Proven experience in systems safety engineering within Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, or Oil & Gas industries.
• Strong experience developing Safety Cases and producing robust ALARP arguments.
• Extensive experience with safety analysis techniques (FTA, ETA, FMECA, FFA, Hazard Logs).
• Knowledge of industry standards such as Def Stan 00-056, EN 50126, IEC 61508, ARP4761, and DO-178.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or relevant technical military background.

• Experience planning and delivering safety engineering programmes of work.
• Experience managing engineering work packages and budgets.
• Knowledge of safety occurrence investigations and root cause analysis methodologies.
• Familiarity with hazard management and safety lifecycle management tools.
