Mechanical Engineer - Wastewater (HVAC)

Location: Hybrid, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Base compensation: $110,000–$125,000 per year

What you will do

• Perform and review heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations using HAP, TAS, Excel, and related tools.
• Prepare mechanical and plumbing schematic layouts, final designs, specifications, equipment schedules, and motor lists.
• Select or confirm mechanical equipment according to established procedures.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and construction changes while coordinating mechanical requirements with other disciplines.
• Direct and supervise junior and intermediate designers to support quality project delivery.
• Coordinate service connections with utility and municipal agencies, contribute to fee proposals, and maintain client relationships.

Requirements

• 8+ years of design experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, specifically for industrial wastewater treatment facilities.
• University degree or college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer designation with PEO (P.Eng.) required.
• Experience with schematic design, equipment selection, 2D AutoCAD, and 3D Revit.
• Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and apply plumbing, building, and sprinkler codes.
• Experience with site surveys, systematic problem-solving, collaboration, client service, and sustainable design principles.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of sustainability frameworks such as Passive House, Zero Carbon Building, and LEED.
