Lead Mechanical Engineer

Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; full-time onsite role

Salary: CAD 130,000–CAD 165,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical discipline scope across studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
• Design and oversee HVAC, mechanical utility, plumbing, and piping systems, including load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, equipment selection, and specifications.
• Manage discipline budgets, task identification, man-hour planning, scheduling, and proposal development with the Project Manager.
• Coordinate designs with architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, manufacturers, and trade partners.
• Support field surveys, commissioning, startup, construction activities, RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, and construction progress reporting.
• Act as Engineer-of-Record, oversee quality, direct mechanical staff, and mentor less experienced engineers and designers.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience for a Lead-level position.
• Professional Engineer registration in good standing.
• Advanced experience designing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems and performing engineering calculations.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes.
• Ability to coordinate complex multidisciplinary projects and travel for client development, project execution, and training.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or food and beverage environments.
• Advanced knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and sustainable design practices such as LEED or WELL.
• Experience with Revit plugins and parametric workflows using Dynamo, Grasshopper, or Rhino.
• Experience with plumbing design, mechanical troubleshooting, field surveys, and construction coordination.
