NGS Lab Technician (Next-Generation Sequencing)

Location: Silver Spring, Maryland, United States. Onsite laboratory position with a Tuesday–Saturday schedule, Sunday and Monday off. Typical hours are 10:30–11:00 AM to 6:30–7:00 PM.

Salary: $26.02–$40.03 per hour. The hiring rate depends on experience, education, responsibilities, location, and performance.

What you will do

• Perform moderate- and high-complexity clinical laboratory testing and specialized diagnostic assays.
• Process patient and validation samples, including DNA/RNA extraction, quality control, sequencing library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis.
• Operate and maintain Illumina Next Generation sequencers, including NextSeq 500DX and NovaSeq 6000 platforms.
• Participate in the development, optimization, validation, and troubleshooting of sequencing protocols, instruments, and clinical assays.
• Monitor data quality, document quality control activities, investigate deviations, and maintain accurate laboratory records.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to integrate NGS data into patient care and train laboratory employees and trainees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, biological science, chemistry, or a related healthcare field.
• For relevant science degrees, 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry are required.
• At least one year of hands-on experience operating next-generation sequencing equipment.
• Experience with clinical laboratory testing, laboratory quality systems, specimen handling, and regulatory standards including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA.
• Excellent computer, communication, and collaboration skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work onsite Tuesday through Saturday on a flexible schedule is required.

Nice to have

• Three or more years of next-generation sequencing experience.
• Hands-on experience with Illumina NextSeq 500DX and NovaSeq 6000 sequencers.
• Familiarity with laboratory automation, PCR, and real-time PCR.
• MB(ASCP) Technologist in Molecular Biology certification.
