Senior Signals Engineer (Rail Transit)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work arrangement

Salary: $110,000–$160,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the design and engineering of railway signaling and train control systems for commuter rail, light rail, heavy rail, metro, and high-speed rail projects.
• Develop and review signal circuits, control lines, route and aspect charts, cable plans, technical specifications, procurement documents, construction packages, and design reports.
• Serve as Technical Lead or Engineer of Record while planning delivery against scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
• Design and analyze CBTC, PTC, cab signaling, relay-based and microprocessor-based interlockings, grade crossing warning, train detection, yard, and terminal systems.
• Perform braking calculations, operational analyses, capacity assessments, design reviews, circuit checking, and quality assurance.
• Support installation, testing, commissioning, system cutovers, field integration, client coordination, and mentoring of junior engineers and designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility to obtain registration.
• Experience delivering railway signaling and train control projects from conceptual design through commissioning and operational turnover.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with clients, operators, agencies, and project stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of railway signaling safety, reliability, and operational requirements.
• Ability to comply with CROR, AREMA, and Transport Canada GCR/GCS requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with yard signaling, terminal operations, and high-speed rail corridors.
• Knowledge of state-of-good-repair, modernization, and rehabilitation programs.
• Experience validating and commissioning vital application logic and signaling data.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related engineering design software.
• Experience with design-build and conventional project delivery models.
