Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineer III (Life Sciences)

Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; full-time onsite role

Salary: CAD 100,000–135,000 per year

What you will do

• Oversee instrumentation and controls engineering disciplines and manage discipline budgets on small to medium projects.
• Coordinate with clients, internal and external engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, and other project partners.
• Lead design phases including programming, planning, feasibility, scope and concept development, detailed design, construction documentation, and construction administration.
• Develop automation control system designs involving multiple controllers, HMIs, workstations, and servers.
• Prepare construction drawing packages, write specifications, lead design quality checks, and identify non-compliant site conditions.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers and support project proposals and engineering training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited program in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
• At least five years of relevant experience, preferably in a design firm.
• Experience with instrumentation and controls calculations, control system design, schematics, panel fabrication drawings, and field wiring plans.
• Experience developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, applying electrical, mechanical, building, and industry codes, and working in cGMP manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office.
• Experience coordinating cross-discipline teams, construction partners, vendors, and manufacturers, with limited-supervision responsibility for design calculations and troubleshooting.

• Basic experience designing Safety Instrumented Systems.
