Automation Engineer (Biopharma)

Location: Framingham, Massachusetts, United States. Full-time work in an industrial manufacturing environment, including gowning and rotating 24/7 on-call support.

What you will do

• Provide automation expertise for small projects, continuous improvements, retrofits, and future system enhancements.
• Maintain availability and provide technical support for automation systems across multiple manufacturing facilities.
• Design and implement solutions for process automation challenges, including equipment, skidded systems, analytical equipment, and building control systems.
• Integrate systems and data while ensuring minimal downtime, data integrity, and compliance with validation requirements.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing process issues and collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Operational Excellence, and other support teams.
• Manage deviations, CAPAs, inspections, automation standards, and documentation in an inspection-ready state.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related technological field.
• At least six months of hands-on process automation experience, preferably in life sciences.
• Direct experience working in regulated environments such as cGMP, OSHA, or EPA-regulated operations.
• Experience troubleshooting automation systems and strong technical, analytical, organizational, and independent-working skills.
• Willingness to support manufacturing operations on a rotating 24/7 on-call basis and work in an industrial environment requiring gowning.

Nice to have

• Experience with DeltaV, Ignition, Werum PAS-X, PI, SCADA, PLC, Rockwell FactoryTalk, RSLogix, or Honeywell systems.
• Knowledge of network infrastructure, system and network validation, virtual environments, VMware, or Hyper-V.
• Electrical or chemical engineering background and experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, food, or other process industries.
• Experience with Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, or value stream mapping.
