TL;DR
Associate Manufacturing Systems Engineer 1 (Automation Technician) (Biotechnology) (PLC/SCADA): Supporting and optimizing automated manufacturing, inspection, packaging, utility, and process systems at a biotechnology production facility with an accent on PLC/HMI troubleshooting, calibration, electrical systems, and regulatory compliance. Focus on diagnosing complex equipment failures, supporting FDA inspections, improving maintenance procedures, and maintaining reliable operation across non-standard 12-hour shifts.

Location: New Albany, Ohio, United States. The role begins on a Monday–Friday first-shift schedule for 1–2 months, then moves to a 12-hour PM 2-2-3 shift schedule supporting 24-hour operations, including weekends and holidays as required.

What you will do

  • Provide technical engineering support for equipment and system optimization, upgrades, replacements, and modifications in the inspection and packaging area.
  • Perform advanced maintenance activities and operate or monitor plant support equipment under CFRs, cGMPs, SOPs, job plans, and company policies.
  • Use PLC and HMI software to diagnose and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate technical support across engineering, regulatory, calibration, quality, validation, electrical, and process automation activities.
  • Support FDA and other regulatory agency inspections, maintain spare-parts inventories, and improve maintenance procedures.
  • Interpret utility, process equipment, plumbing, ductwork, architectural, and HVAC P&ID plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an associate degree plus 4 years of technical engineering experience, or a high school diploma/GED plus 6 years of technical engineering experience.
  • Experience with PLC, computer serialization, packaging equipment, and inspection systems.
  • Experience supporting automation system hardware and software, including installation.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, project management, technical writing, communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

  • Education in mechatronics, computer science, electronic engineering technology, computer engineering, or electrical engineering.
  • SCADA/PLC control-system experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device, or biotechnology industry.
  • Experience with Siemens and Rockwell HMIs, Cognex Vision Systems, sensors, and Systech serialization.
