Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Eugene/Springfield, Oregon; full-time onsite work with frequent travel by air or automobile, approximately 70% of the workweek

What you will do

• Analyze Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens and process in-house, incoming, and send-out test results.
• Follow procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting, recordkeeping, and patient-result charting.
• Operate laboratory equipment and perform scheduled instrument maintenance, calibrations, and quality-control activities.
• Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials on normal and abnormal samples.
• Identify testing problems, take or escalate corrective action, and maintain complete quality-assurance documentation.
• Manage laboratory supplies, prepare reagents and solutions, and assist with special procedures such as bone marrow work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, biological science, chemistry, or a related healthcare field.
• Biological science or chemistry degrees must include the required combination of biology and chemistry coursework.
• The position is entry level; laboratory experience is preferred.
• AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Four-year degree candidates must take a Hematology and/or Chemistry examination after completing one year of training.
• Ability to perform work requiring extended sitting or standing, manual dexterity, normal color perception and hearing, and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
