Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer (Optical Comms)

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $133,000–$161,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead systems engineering activities across the definition, development, integration, verification, and lifecycle support of aerospace systems.
• Analyze and decompose customer, mission, and system-level requirements, maintaining end-to-end traceability.
• Define hardware, software, electrical, mechanical, and data interfaces for optical communication payloads and space vehicles.
• Research commercial optical communication payloads, conduct source selection, and serve as the primary technical contact for vendors.
• Develop system architecture, technical trade studies, verification strategies, configurations, acceptance criteria, and verification evidence.
• Partner with integration and test teams, evaluate test results, resolve discrepancies, and support program planning and technical reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, systems, electrical, mechanical, computer engineering, physics, or a related discipline with typically 5–8 years of relevant experience; equivalent master’s or PhD pathways are accepted.
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles and the systems development lifecycle.
• Experience developing, managing, and verifying system and subsystem requirements.
• Knowledge of systems architecture, interface management, systems integration, configuration management, verification, and validation.
• Experience with requirements management, MBSE, modeling and simulation, collaboration, version control, and issue tracking tools such as Jama, DOORS, CATIA Magic/Cameo, Git, and Jira.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Spacecraft mission planning, launch support, and on-orbit operations experience.
• Experience with spacecraft integration, mission readiness, and operational activities.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated engineering programs.
