What you will do
- Diagnose and repair mechanical problems in heavy equipment, compact equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on compactors, excavators, wheel loaders, and other diesel or gasoline vehicles.
- Service engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic systems, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, wheels, tires, and undercarriages.
- Read equipment condition reports and repair orders, clarify defects with supervisors or operators, and discuss preventive techniques.
- Document work orders, parts usage, labor time, fuel, oil, and other consumables in fleet management systems.
- Interpret oil sampling, onboard computer, and fleet management software analyses; perform gas and diesel engine overhauls.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience as a heavy equipment technician, including progressively challenging maintenance repairs.
- Advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components.
- Mechanical trade school certificate or degree and a certificate in electrical diagnostics.
- Applicable ASE certifications and working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
- At least one year of experience applying OSHA Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, and Fire Protection regulations.
- Welding and/or fabrication skills or experience.
