Senior Design Manager

Location: South Flower Street, Los Angeles, California; full-time, onsite position.

Compensation range: $160,647.46–$183,597.09 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the planning, design, and coordination of multiple K-12 capital improvement, modernization, school upgrade, and critical repair projects.
• Manage design activities from concept through design completion and transition to construction.
• Review architectural and engineering deliverables for quality, constructability, functionality, code compliance, and cost effectiveness.
• Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, District personnel, regulatory agencies, contractors, and community stakeholders.
• Manage design risks, scope changes, budgets, schedules, documentation, and project milestones.
• Serve as the primary design liaison with the Division of the State Architect and oversee design review and approval activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
• 15+ years of professional experience managing facilities design or capital improvement projects, including design management, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling.
• At least 5 years of experience planning, designing, and constructing K-12 educational facilities.
• Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction documents, building systems, and project delivery.
• Thorough understanding of the California Building Code, DSA requirements, ADA, and public-sector procurement.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and balancing scope, schedule, budget, quality, and stakeholder requirements.

Nice to have

• Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer.
• LEED AP or other sustainability credentials.
• Experience with LAUSD, large K-12 bond programs, community college districts, or higher education capital programs.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Autodesk products, BIM, or similar design software.
