Facility-Fee Emergency Department Medical Coder

What you will do

• Review emergency department medical records, clinical documentation, nursing notes, ancillary reports, and charging information.
• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, applicable modifiers, and facility Evaluation and Management levels.
• Apply facility-specific charging methodologies, ACEP guidance, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, payer requirements, and official coding guidelines.
• Review procedural services and injections or infusions for accurate charge capture and reimbursement.
• Identify documentation deficiencies and communicate coding clarification needs.
• Participate in quality reviews, audits, education, process improvement, and issue resolution with coding leadership, auditors, and client representatives.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of facility-fee outpatient coding experience focused on emergency department services.
• Injection and infusion coding experience required.
• Active AAPC or AHIMA coding certification required.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently in a remote environment.
• Knowledge of facility-fee coding, emergency department leveling methodologies, outpatient reimbursement regulations, and payer requirements.
