Traffic Assistant Project Manager (APM) (Traffic Engineering)

Location: Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, North Carolina; full-time office-based position.

Salary: $124,726.29–$142,544.33 per year.

What you will do

• Develop traffic signal designs covering phasing, timing, detection, communications, and cabinet/controller plans.
• Prepare ITS infrastructure designs for CCTV, DMS, fiber and communications layouts, detection systems, and field devices.
• Support signing, pavement marking, and work zone traffic control plan development.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design deliverables within established schedules and budgets.
• Conduct field reviews, document existing conditions, and verify design assumptions.
• Assist with specifications, quantities, cost estimates, technical reports, bid packages, client coordination, and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
• 10+ years of traffic engineering or transportation design experience.
• Strong traffic signal design experience.
• NC or SC Professional Engineer license preferred; ability to obtain licensure in the Carolinas required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and applicable DOT CADD standards.
• Experience applying NCDOT, SCDOT, MUTCD, AASHTO, and local municipal standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with ITS infrastructure and communications design.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer.
• Experience working with NCDOT, SCDOT, and local municipalities in the Carolinas.
