Director, Environmental Sustainability

Location: Oakland, California, United States; hybrid schedule with three days in the office and two days remote

Salary: $149,600–$369,700 annually, depending on the applicable U.S. compensation zone and work location

What you will do

• Integrate the global environmental sustainability strategy into business-unit priorities, functional roadmaps, governance routines, and investment decisions.
• Lead enterprise GHG accounting across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, including methodologies, baselines, data quality, controls, and audit readiness.
• Use material and packaging carbon-footprint data to identify emissions hotspots and guide decarbonization, sourcing, product, and supply-chain decisions.
• Develop compliance plans for EPR and other packaging regulations, covering requirements, data, ownership, timelines, reporting, and risk mitigation.
• Oversee environmental metrics and sustainability disclosures, including energy, water, waste, renewable energy, GHG emissions, the Annual Report, and CDP.
• Advise senior leaders, enable business-unit sustainability partners, strengthen supplier engagement, and represent sustainability priorities in external forums.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental sustainability, carbon accounting, climate strategy, packaging sustainability, supply-chain sustainability, or a related field.
• Experience with corporate carbon footprints across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, including methodology decisions, data quality, reporting controls, and assurance.
• Strong knowledge of material and packaging carbon footprints, supplier emissions data, life-cycle assessment concepts, and decarbonization levers.
• Experience interpreting plastics, packaging, EPR, recyclability, recycled-content, labeling, and related regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of GHG Protocol, SBTi, CDP, TCFD, climate-disclosure requirements, sustainability data systems, carbon-accounting platforms, and dashboards.
• Ability to work from Oakland, California, with regular office attendance three days per week, and to influence senior leaders across cross-functional stakeholder groups.
