Construction Inspector Trainee (Transportation)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina; assignments may be in the Wilmington, NC area. Daily travel to roadway and bridge project sites is required, with nights, weekends, and occasional limited overnight travel as needed.

Salary: $55,267.00–$62,803.00 per year

What you will do

• Support construction inspection and administration for highway and bridge projects.
• Monitor contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
• Perform on-site material testing and sampling.
• Prepare daily inspection reports and document measurements of completed work.
• Read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications.
• Communicate with project staff, contractors, and clients in writing and verbally.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED diploma, or equivalent.
• No prior construction inspection experience is required.
• Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, traverse rough terrain, and walk or stand for extended periods while performing manual tasks.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and maintain a safe, alert working state.
• Ability to obtain required NCDOT certifications within six months of starting employment, including concrete, asphalt, erosion control, sampling, density, and OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certifications.
