VP, AI Governance

Location: United States, remote

Salary range: $180,000–$420,000 per year, depending on scope and sector.

What you will do

• Design and execute AI governance frameworks covering policy, risk assessment, compliance, and ethical review.
• Lead cross-functional governance committees and partner with legal, compliance, security, product, and engineering teams.
• Build scalable AI risk assessment, approval, model monitoring, bias detection, and drift management processes.
• Develop governance standards, documentation requirements, and decision-making criteria for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Align governance practices with requirements such as Fair Lending, HIPAA, SOC 2, and emerging AI regulations.
• Establish governance metrics and audit cadences, identify control gaps, and report AI risk posture to leadership and boards.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in compliance, risk management, legal, or governance roles.
• 3–5 years of direct experience building governance, policy, or audit frameworks at scale.
• Ability to translate technical AI/ML concepts into governance requirements and risk language.
• Proven experience operationalizing frameworks by writing policies, designing approval workflows, building audit checklists, and measuring compliance.
• Experience collaborating with engineering, product, and legal teams, leading without direct authority, and working through ambiguity.
• Executive presence and communication skills for explaining governance trade-offs to boards and technical stakeholders.
