Communication Systems Architect (Ground Station)

Location: Melbourne, Florida, United States; on-site. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility for required U.S. government authorizations is required for ITAR-regulated programs.

What you will do

• Design and maintain end-to-end architectures spanning satellite platforms, communications payloads, ground stations, networks, and software systems.
• Provide architectural leadership for system definition, development, integration, verification, and lifecycle evolution.
• Translate customer, mission, and business requirements into system architectures, interfaces, specifications, and performance metrics.
• Document CONOPS, system diagrams, interface definitions, and other architecture information.
• Partner with engineering and product teams on technology roadmaps, development plans, and cohesive space-ground integration.
• Conduct modeling, simulation, data analysis, trade studies, technical evaluations, proposal development, and customer-facing technical work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, computer engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 15–19 years of relevant experience in space systems, satellite communications, or related aerospace domains.
• Deep expertise in space system architectures, including satellite platforms, communications payloads, ground stations, and networked systems.
• Experience defining system-level requirements, interfaces, performance metrics, CONOPS, and architectures for complex space missions.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate in resource-constrained environments.
• U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work on ITAR-regulated programs is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with RF payloads, phased array antennas, and ground terminal architectures.
• Familiarity with digital signal processing, networking, and software-defined systems.
• Experience with cloud-based architectures, distributed systems, and virtualized environments.
• Background in modeling and simulation, system optimization, or advanced algorithm development.
• Experience with government or commercial aerospace customers.
